As far as old-school horror goes, there’s really only one master: the legendary John Carpenter.
So, fans were understandably nervous for David Gordon Green and Danny McBride to reboot the director’s legendary horror film Halloween. Especially because they were planning to completely change the ending of Carpenter’s 1978 classic and also ignore all the sequels, like Season of the Witch and Return of Michael Myers.
It was a risky plan, no doubt, but it certainly paid off. Indeed, Halloween was praised by both critics and fans alike and after collecting a cool $255 million at the global box office, we’re now learning that we’ll be getting not one, but two follow-ups, and they’ll be arriving pretty soon.
Blumhouse announced earlier today that the first sequel, Halloween Kills, will hit theaters on October 16th, 2020 while Halloween Ends will follow shortly after on October 15th, 2021. So, they won’t both be releasing at the same time as was previously rumored, but still, horror fans are no doubt in for a couple of exciting years.
Even better is that the original gang will all be back. Jamie Lee Curtis, David Gordon Green, Danny McBride…even Carpenter will return to score the films. And while plot details are non-existent at this early, early stage, we do have a quick teaser trailer, which you can see down above.
Exciting, eh? Again, it’s still early days here so we don’t know too much more about what to expect, but after how well the last Halloween went down with fans, this is pretty huge news and with any luck, now that the two films have been officially revealed, Blumhouse will begin to spill more details sooner rather than later.
