Early last week, long before an asinine hate group took aim at Marvel’s Africa-set blockbuster, we brought you the news that Marvel is hoping to launch multiple spinoffs and crossovers based on characters from the Black Panther universe.
That’s still very much the case – at least so far as we can tell – and while chatting to ComicBook.com, Letitia Wright expressed an interest in reprising her role as Shuri for a future spinoff.
She’s already locked in for Avengers: Infinity War – as are another 75 Marvel characters, according to Chris Hemsworth – but when asked about the possibility of a standalone adventure for her Shuri, the actress responded as so:
I hope, whenever the time is right, if it’s meant to happen, I would happily do it. But you can’t have a Shuri movie without T’Challa and you can’t have a Shuri movie without Ramonda and Nakia and the rest of the Dora Milaje and Okoye. So, I guess, the question is: when can we have Black Panther 2?
To her credit, Wright appears more interested in a potential Black Panther sequel than a bona fide spinoff that places the sole focus on her Shuri, a whip-smart scientist with an IQ to match Tony Stark.
As for her involvement in Avengers: Infinity War, the actress gushed about her experience performing alongside some of the MCU’s biggest names.
It was amazing. It was surreal to just see certain characters that I’d been watching as an audience member for years and then be opposite them. I can’t say who but it was amazing. I keep using the word amazing today. I just have to walk around with a sign that says, ‘Black Panther and the whole Marvel experience of working on Avengers: Infinity War was also amazing!’ It was amazing.
Black Panther will herald our first true look at Shuri, Wakanda, and the famous Dora Milaje, who are best described as an all-female division of the country’s military. They’re also the regal protectors of T’Challa himself, and we’ll be able to see Wakanda’s finest take center stage on February 16th.
