Look away now, Nakia, for there’s a new cluster of rumors linking Storm with a potential role in the all-but-confirmed Black Panther sequel.
Marvel boss Kevin Feige has already touched on T’Challa’s future beyond 2018 – not counting ensemble appearances like Infinity War and the so-far untitled Avengers 4 – while the film’s incredible debut at the domestic box office indicates that it’s really a question of when, rather than if, Black Panther 2 will become a reality.
But for now, the speculation continues. Case in point: ComicBook.com spoke to Chadwick Boseman (T’Challa) and The Last Jedi‘s Lupita Nyong’o (Nakia) about a possible sequel, along with the notion that Wakanda’s newfound king could hook up with Storm (AKA Ororo Munroe).
Boseman: Are you trying to break up my relationship with Nakia? It sounds like that’s what you’re doing right now.
Nyong’o: I’m not happy to talk about this, at all! I feel very territorial. That’s my king! I’ve already told him, he better not have that. He will have a problem on his hands.
Two weeks ago, director Ryan Coogler was presented with a similar question – that being will Black Panther 2 herald Storm’s first appearance in the MCU – to which he replied:
To be honest with you, I don’t know enough about that acquisition to even talk about it, man. I’m like caught up there while we were trying to finish the movie. So, I think, look — if it’s something that goes through, I can’t think of better hands for those characters to be in than Kevin [Feige]’s. I’ll say that.
Before we get swept up in what the future may hold, let’s just enjoy the moment. Black Panther is here, and he’s already taken aim at the box office crown.
