Black Mirror: Bandersnatch Arrives This Friday, First Trailer Debuts

There've been rumblings of late that Netflix wouldn't be dropping a full season of Black Mirror as usual this new year, but instead they'd release a special one-off installment that'll have a unique format. Well, it looks like the rumors have been proven right, as the streaming service has shared a trailer for Bandersnatch today, an episode that looks to be playing around with the Choose Your Own Adventure structure. What's more, it's arriving tomorrow, December 28th.

Set in 1984, Bandersnatch stars Dunkirk‘s Fionn Whitehead as a young programmer who’s tasked with adapting a chaotic fantasy novel – the fictional Bandersnatch by Jerome F. Davies, who apparently killed his wife – into a video game, which makes him start questioning his own reality. The trailer promises a really trippy experience that feels recognizably Black Mirror but also like something fresh and different from previous episodes.

The promo runs with the tagline “Change your mind. Change your past… present… future” and teases that Bandersnatch is going to be “A Netflix Event” rather than a regular old episode. There’ve been reports of an interactive installment of the sci-fi anthology series for a while now, and it seems that we’re finally going to see how writer and showrunner Charlie Brooker has realized that tricky but bold concept.

Netflix has yet to reveal the running time for the installment, but it’s thought that it’ll be a feature-length piece. We also know that The Maze Runner‘s Will Poulter and Asim Chaudhry will co-star, but details beyond that remain scarce. Thankfully, though, we don’t have long to go before we learn more, as Black Mirror: Bandersnatch will be with us tomorrow.
