These Birds of Prey audition videos might give us some new clues as to a few of the most significant characters who’ll be appearing in the movie. Actress Jeanine Serralles (known for the likes of Inside Llewyn Davies and Persons of Interest) shared her audition for part of “Lopez” on Vimeo. Obviously a codename, this individual seems to be a tough, inquisitive cop, which indicates she’s actually Renee Montoya, who was previously reported to be featuring in the DC all-female team-up pic.
The script Serralles is performing, meanwhile, sees “Lopez” investigating a new assassin on the streets who uses a crossbow. This has to be Helena Bertinelli AKA Huntress, a long-standing member of the Birds of Prey in the comics and another character strongly linked to this version of the group.

What’s more, “Lopez” is hot on the tail of a crime boss named “Cecil Rockas,” who apparently has the city in his hand. It’s believed that Black Mask is to be the big bad of Birds of Prey and this description of “Rockas” would certainly fit the character of Roman Sionis to a T. Then again, there are a lot of crime bosses in the Batman universe, so it’s plausible that the script’s alluding to various other villains such as the Penguin or Carmine Falcone.
Apart from Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn, other superheroines thought to show up in Birds of Prey include Black Canary and Cassandra Cain (also known as Orphan or one of the Batgirls in comics continuity). Those linked to the production, meanwhile, include Peyton Elizabeth Lee as Cain, Francesca Ruscio as Huntress and a biracial actress to play Black Canary.
Filming on Birds of Prey is expected to begin early next year, so expect some concrete casting details to emerge over the next few months.
