Before he donned the cape and cowl for Warner Bros., did Ben Affleck pass up the chance to take the reins of Star Wars: The Force Awakens? That was the million-dollar question presented to the writer-director when appearing on chat show Any Given Wednesday.
Much to the surprise of no one, Affleck remained coy, simply noting that he received “lots of offers” before picking up the mantle as Warner’s newfound Caped Crusader. Could one of those potential deals have teed up a trip to Disney’s galaxy far, far away?
When quizzed on the matter, Affleck said: “Well I wouldn’t be able to say. It wouldn’t be polite to talk about the jobs you turned down. But I did have a lot of offers.”
[zergpaid]Hot off the one-two-three punch of Gone Baby Gone, The Town and Argo – with the latter bagging him that all-important Oscar – Affleck was certainly on quite the streak before J.J. Abrams ultimately landed the Star Wars: The Force Awakens gig. Given that he’s now so embedded in WB’s superhero universe, holding an executive producing role on Justice League, we’re inclined to believe that Affleck is merely toying with expectations.
In terms of the DC Extended Universe, Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice is due to release its Ultimate Edition via digital next week. Ben Affleck, meanwhile, has roles in The Accountant and bootlegging crime drama Live By Night, the latter of which he’s directing.
