As expected, Empire Magazine’s stylish cover reveal for Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice was only the start of the outlet’s coverage of Zack Snyder’s imminent superhero showdown, though the eagle eyes at Comic Book Movie have spotted a clue that could herald the arrival of a major DC villain.
In in the interest of keeping spoilers under wraps, we’ve included the image after the jump, where you’ll also find speculation surrounding the purported introduction of the supervillain in question.
[zerg]Then again, those who have kept pace with Dawn of Justice‘s production won’t be too surprised to learn that the image in question appears to tease the unveiling of DC mega-villain, Darkseid. In what appears to be taken from the same (dream?) sequence of Ben Affleck’s Caped Crusader in the desert, you can clearly see the infamous Omega symbol burnt into the sun-scorched land.
With this in mind, is Darkseid the true overarching villain found in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice? It’s too soon to know for certain. How and ever, ever since the reveal of Doomsday in the most recent full-length trailer, fans have considered the hulking CG monster to be a red herring, distracting from the true nemesis standing in the way of Batman, Superman and Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman.
Whether or not that’s true will be told in time, though director Zack Snyder continues to tease the ways in which Doomsday will do battle with the fabled DC trinity.
“To go up against heroes like Batman and Superman, we wanted to introduce one of the DC Universe’s most iconic and powerful villains. He is essentially an unstoppable force. He poses a real threat to the world within the film. You learn pretty early on that Lex is interested in metahuman existence and that there might be some relationship between that investigation and the appearance of Diana Prince.”
Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice is primed to open on March 25. As we barrel down on the film’s release, we can readily expect every major brand in town to hop on board Zack Snyder’s Herculean blockbuster, and today brings word of Turkish Airlines partnering with the Warner Bros. flick for a new promo featuring Gal Gadot’s Amazonian Warrior, which you can find down below.
