One of the biggest remaining question marks going into this awards season remains Quentin Tarantino‘s latest film, Django Unchained. The trailers have made it look like a fun ride, and for those of us who have already read the screenplay, we know that it has its share of great moments, but how will it all end up on screen?
Well, sadly we still have nearly a month and a half to go until the film finally opens, but at least that means the marketing for it will keep churning out goodies. Today, thanks to The Playlist, we have eight new banners for the film that give you some good looks at the cast, and even one of Tarantino himself.
I’m already about as excited as I can be for it, but hearing rumors of a three-hour runtime just makes me even more so. Tarantino has already delivered multiple masterpieces in the past including Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, and Inglourious Basterds, so I’m very anxious to see how he’ll handle the western genre (or “southern” as he calls it).
So just how much of a chance will Tarantino’s new epic have this awards season? Well, seeing as how Basterds was one of the best films of the last several years and managed to be beaten by a decent, but forgettable war film at almost every turn, I’m going to go ahead and say its chances aren’t particularly good. However, you never know with the Academy.
Perhaps the film will end up blowing everyone away, but as I said, it’s just one of the remaining question marks for the season, which also includes Les Miserables and The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, two films that haven’t been seen yet that are thought to have chances at Oscars.
We’ll finally get our chance to see Tarantino’s latest when Django Unchained hits theaters on December 25th.
