The now-defunct DC Extended Universe may have technically beaten the Marvel Cinematic Universe to the punch in changing the hierarchy of power, but we can’t help but feel that Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is going to show its former competitor how its done by way of Jonathan Majors and his turn as Kang the Conqueror, who already has us quaking in our boots from the few glimpses we’ve gotten of him so far.

Indeed, though Majors commanded the screen just as effortlessly as the tongue-in-cheek He Who Remains, we won’t be seeing a shred of that giddiness from Kang, who we know is the main antagonist of not only Quantumania, but of the Multiverse Saga as a whole. The villain looks all but ready to have Earth’s champions wishing they were fighting Thanos instead.

Unlike Thanos, Kang is making his mark as the big bad early on, which we only imagine will linger and mutate as the MCU approaches the events of 2025’s Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. Writer Jeff Loveness, who served as Quantumania‘s scribe and will also be penning the script for The Kang Dynasty, was excited to open up about what he and the rest of the creative team sought to accomplish with Kang’s introduction in Quantumania during an interview with Variety.

Loveness explained how they wanted Kang to “shatter expectations,” not only in regards to the threat that he poses, but also in respect to Majors’ aforementioned turn in Loki as He Who Remains. The writer would go on to praise Majors’ titanic levels of talent, making us all the more excited to see what Kang has in store for Quantumania and beyond.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will release to theaters on Feb. 17.
