After weeks of box office domination and critical acclaim, Joss Whedon‘s superhero extravaganza The Avengers now eyes a $600 million domestic gross, as reported by Comic Book Movie.
According to this weekend’s box office report, The Avengers has raked in $598.3 million domestically and $837.9 million internationally while amassing an astonishing $1.463 billion globally. Whedon and Marvel Studios can now boast the #3 highest grossing film of all time, as The Avengers still ranks on the weekly box office top 10 list.
This is no doubt a crowning achievement for one of the best comic book adaptations in years. Though, as the film loses steam there exists a miniscule chance The Avengers will best Titanic or Avatar.
But, will The Avengers even be the highest grossing comic book film of the year? With Christopher Nolan‘s highly anticipated The Dark Knight Rises set for release July 20th, we could have an epic box office battle on our hands.
What do you guys think? Which superhero film will ultimately reign supreme once all the numbers are crunched?
