Avengers: Infinity War continues to obliterate records left, right and center.
With advanced tickets selling like hot cakes and fans poring over every little scrap of intel, the Marvel event film has truly cemented its status as one of 2018’s biggest releases and maybe – just maybe – one of the most audacious movies in the history of cinema, given its immense scope and 10-year legacy.
So it should come as no surprise that Infinity War‘s latest trailer notched a record number of views. As a matter of fact, according to Disney and Marvel’s official estimates (h/t THR), the sequel’s recent showcase was viewed 179 million times in its first 24 hours of release, becoming the third-biggest trailer launch, well, ever.
That’s quite a bit short of Infinity War‘s original teaser, which remains the biggest trailer release in history after racking up 230 million views across a similar period, while second place belongs to New Line’s It with 197 million. This is still an impressive feat, of course, given 179 million views is enough to ensure Infinity War enjoyed the biggest ever release for a second trailer – easily surpassing fellow Disney title Beauty and the Beast (128 million views).
Besides, as THR so rightly points out, it’s only natural that a film’s second trailer will amass fewer views than its predecessor, which has the advantage of appealing to all that pent-up demand. And when it comes to Infinity War, Marvel’s superhero mash-up is practically in a league of its own.
It’s been described as a superhero extravaganza like no other, and we’ll be able to see what all the fuss is about when Avengers: Infinity War hits theaters on April 27th.
