22 heroes, six Infinity Stones, and one Mad Titan.
If that tagline sounds familiar, it should; it’s the stinger that accompanied EW’s coverage of Avengers: Infinity War back in March, when the outlet rolled out a number of shiny covers dedicated to the Marvel threequel and its enormous cast.
Because make no mistake, Infinity War has covered all bases when it comes to Marvel’s roster of characters – from Black Panther to the Guardians of the Galaxy, there’s really nothing in the MCU that compares to Avengers 3. Even still, there has been speculation that Joe and Anthony Russo also carved out room for a Silver Surfer cameo – speculation that the filmmaking duo addressed during a sit-down interview with Yahoo Movies. The takeaway? Don’t get your hopes up…
I don’t think we own Silver Surfer. But it’s fan-wish fulfillment and, you know, if this Disney-Fox deal goes through there’s going to be a lot more characters coming into the Marvel universe, so some of those crazy fan theories might come true.
On a more general note, Anthony Russo recalled the Herculean task of piecing Avengers: Infinity War together, which touts an ensemble cast the likes of which we’ve never seen. And though the Russo Brothers and the Powers That Be over at Marvel balanced all sorts of schedules and logistical issues throughout development, the world is about to lay eyes on the end product.

It’s hard to second guess, you know, part of the beauty of these movies is that there are so many different directions that you can go. There are so many different choices you can make and I think that’s part of the fun of the process for Joe and I, in those early days, feeling out where we want to go with the movie, sitting with Marcus and McFeely and the writers, talking through all the possibilities, and once you centre on a road, just running with it. I don’t think we have any regrets about the choices we’ve made I think we’re very happy with it, but yeah, the material is infinitely malleable.
Avengers: Infinity War finally – finally! – reaches theaters worldwide on April 27th, and it seems Stan Lee’s cameo has already been revealed. Not only that, but box office buffs believe the film is headed for an opening weekend in the region of $235 million.
