As a two-minute preview of what’s to come, the Avengers: Infinity War trailer was a spectacular vertical slice of 2018’s most-anticipated movie.
Between Alan Silvestri’s rousing score and that awesome slow-motion shot of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes – a common filmmaking device that’s now appeared across all three of Marvel’s team-up movies – Joe and Anthony Russo’s sneak peek undoubtedly delivered the goods.
But if there’s one MCU stalwart who was unfairly relegated to the sidelines, it’s Clint Barton. Yes, Hawkeye was conspicuously absent from Infinity War‘s first-look teaser, and that’s something that Jeremy Renner has addressed head-on in recent interviews. Not only that, but the actor also touched on those allegations that his on-screen archer is poised for a huge and potentially “wondrous” character arc across Avengers: Infinity War and its untitled sequel.
It’s difficult, because you want to speak about the movie but you can’t. There’s a lot of superheroes in it. And it’s gonna be big and it’s gonna be awesome. But I can’t really talk about the movie.
Bound by all sorts of non-disclosure agreements, we imagine there’s not much Renner can reveal without fearing the wrath of Marvel’s producers. However that may be, the Phase One Avenger weighed in on those rumors claiming that Hawkeye is on the verge of becoming Ronin.
I can’t get into the theories … I know [Ronin] is in the comics, but otherwise, I don’t really know anything about that stuff.
Initially dreamed up by comic book duo Brian Michael Bendis and Joe Quesada, Ronin is essentially another alias for Clint Barton, who comes into play as part of Marvel’s New Avengers. It’s a character who also has ties to the Skrulls, which may help bridge Captain Marvel with the current iteration of the MCU. Watch this space for more.
Next up for Renner is the launch of Avengers: Infinity War on May 4th, 2018.
