Thanks to that handy change to the planned release date, Avengers: Infinity War is now set to arrive next month, which means the Marvel movie we’ve all been waiting for is almost here. The studio has done a stand-up job of keeping as many details about it as close to their chests as possible so far, but as we’ve found over the past little while, sometimes juicy new info turns up in the strangest of places.
For instance, the Toy ‘R’ Us website features a page on Infinity War which contains these interesting character bios for a selection of the movie’s major players that we haven’t found anywhere else. Obviously, they don’t spoil any plot details, but they do confirm a few intriguing tidbits.
First up, Cap’s bio spells out something we’ve been theorizing ever since the end of Captain America: Civil War: that Steve Rogers has still been playing hero, even if he is a fugitive from the law. It teases that he’s been “continuing to do what he believes is right — saving the world one clandestine mission at a time.” This basically confirms that Steve’s been leading a team of Secret Avengers.
Next up, Spider-Man’s bio intriguingly calls him Iron Spider, which is yet another piece of recent evidence suggesting that this is the name he’ll go by in Infinity War, now that he’s taken on Tony’s upgraded suit. The write-up also confirms that Peter Parker will use his Spider-Sense in the movie, after it was disappointingly absent from Spider-Man: Homecoming.
Finally, and this is a big one, Thanos’ bio reveals what the Mad Titan’s motivation for hunting down the Infinity Stones actually is: apparently, he’s “consumed with saving the universe from itself.” The Russos previously told us that Thanos is like the protagonist of Infinity War, which makes more sense now that we know he sees himself as the hero of the story as he is, in his own way, attempting to save the universe.
That’s certainly something for us to chew on as we continue to count down the days until Avengers: Infinity War lands in theaters and as more intriguing info begins to surface, we’ll be sure to keep you posted.
