Well, we knew that the first trailer for Avengers: Infinity War was doing rather well on YouTube as three out of five of those that were most viewed in 2017 belong to films distributed by Marvel Studios, but, every day, it seems like we get some kind of new inclination as to how highly anticipated this movie truly is. Maybe it’s the fact that this is what the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been building to since Iron Man first arrived in 2008, or that so many superheroes will be united in one picture, but our best judgment says it’s a bit of both.
As it turns out, Earth’s Mightiest Heroes have actually toppled the previous record set by Star Wars: The Force Awakens (just under 100 million views) and, at the time of this writing, have tallied an impressive 100,018,171 views of their own – making Infinity War the most viewed trailer of all-time. To be honest, we can see this milestone not being surpassed by anyone else in the immediate future, until, maybe, the trailer for Avengers 4 drops.
Now, you may think that some of the luster may wear off after Infinity War‘s theatrical run has come and gone, but our gut tells us that we’ll be witness to some insane cliffhanger that’ll make every moviegoer wish that May of 2019 weren’t so far away. Plus, there’s the knowledge that Avengers 4 will have a bit of a different vibe to it.
Here’s what co-director Joe Russo told ComicBook.com in regard to that subject:
“They’re all big. It’s important for both [Avengers 3 and Avengers 4] to be distinctly different. It’s important for them to have different tones, and different narratives, and different surprises for the audience. We’ve worked really hard with [writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeeley] at ensuring that the films are tonally different and structurally different.”
So, while you wait for Disney to release the next batch of fresh footage, know that Avengers: Infinity War is set to arrive in theaters on May 4, 2018.
