Spoilers to follow.
While many believed that Avengers: Endgame would serve as Thor’s final outing in the MCU, Chris Hemsworth’s fan favorite hero was left standing when all was said and done, and in pretty good shape. Well, better shape than he was earlier in the film when we saw him playing Fortnite with Miek and Korg.
In fact, Endgame actually leaves the door open for the God of Thunder to have a very bright future in the franchise, should Hemsworth want to stay on board. And judging by past comments from the actor, it would seem he’s all for that. Speaking on This Morning earlier this month, he said:
“I’d play this character for as long as anyone would let me. I’ve loved it so much. But the combination of this many characters in this Phase Three, as Marvel calls it, you’ll never have this interaction with this many people again. Who knows what the future holds and whether they do prequels and sequels or whatever, I’d be open to anything. But right now, this is where we finish up.”
So, it seems Hemsworth is definitely into suiting up as Thor again and though we don’t yet know when or where in the MCU he’ll show up next, it seems pretty likely that the hero could be teaming up with the Guardians of the Galaxy in Vol 3. After all, when we last left them in Endgame, he was on their ship and about to embark on a new mission with the gang, arguing hilariously with Star-Lord over who’s in charge – him or Quill.
Now, it could well be that the God of Thunder aids the space heroes for a bit and then heads elsewhere by the time Vol. 3 kicks off, but seeing how great the chemistry is between him and the rest of the team, we wouldn’t be at all surprised if this scene in Avengers: Endgame is indeed a tease for the Guardians’ next film and acts as a set up for Thor joining the crew permanently. Or at least, for their next few adventures.
