Even for a film that might clock in at around the 3-hour mark, Avengers: Endgame looks to be packed to the gills with characters and plotlines, but with actors like Katherine Langford and Hiroyuki Sanada entering the fray, it’s evident that Marvel Studios is hoping there’ll still be room for a few fresh faces in the action.
Going by a recent report from MCU Cosmic’s Jeremy Conrad, the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War sequel might even lay the foundations for a brand new superhero. According to the frequent Marvel leaker, “There’s been some hinting and talk about Black Knight recently,” adding that the studio already knows how he’ll be brought into the saga. In a tease of how this introduction could happen, Conrad’s post includes a picture (seen below) of the sub-atomic city witnessed during Scott Lang’s journey into the Quantum Realm in Ant-Man and the Wasp.
Indeed, the evidence has been mounting all year that the Quantum Realm is integral to the future of the MCU, and to next year’s Endgame in particular. Whether or not these plans involve the introduction of sometime Avenger Dane Whitman is still to be confirmed, though seeing how Marvel likes to play the long game with these things, it seems quite possible that Anthony and Joe Russo’s next film will at least sow the seeds for the character.
That being said, it’s clear that the emotional focus of Avengers: Endgame will be on the original Phase 1 line-up of heroes, with the movie looking likely to be the MCU finale of Tony Stark and perhaps some of his peers. With Iron Man out the way, would that leave a spot open for another hero in a suit of armor? We’ll find out when the film hits theaters on April 26th, 2019.
