Avengers: Endgame is now right around the corner and so, Entertainment Weekly’s latest cover star is the cast of Marvel’s hotly anticipated movie. The mag has assembled (well, photoshopped) all of the remaining heroes together to remind us who’s left going into Avengers 4 and who’ll be avenging those that perished at Thanos’ hand – specifically, his thumb and forefinger – at the end of Avengers: Infinity War.
Standing in the front row are Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Captain America (Chris Evans), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Ant-Man (Paul Rudd), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), Nebula (Karen Gillan) and Rocket (Bradley Cooper). Behind them, meanwhile, are Captain Marvel (Brie Larson), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) and War Machine (Don Cheadle). You know, what you might classify as the big guns, plus War Machine. I’m kidding Rhodey, we love you.
The special commemorative issue is being labelled as “the Ultimate Guide to the Avengers” as EW promises that the magazine will examine all 22 films that make up the Marvel Cinematic Universe to date, going all the way back to 2008’s Iron Man. As we know, Kevin Feige has instructed us to call this entire era of the franchise “the Infinity Saga” as, from hereon in, the ongoing threat of the Infinity Stones will be no more.
The 11 Avengers depicted on this cover are all that’s left to take on Thanos in a rematch and though that’s a fair bit less than the horde of heroes that went up against him in Infinity War, at least this time they have Carol Danvers on their side. As she explained in a recently-released clip, she’s been busy protecting the galaxy for the past 20 years but now she’s back to stop the Mad Titan. With the help of the other guys, of course.
One way or the other, Thanos is going down, but we don’t yet know what the cost will be. For instance, how many of these heroes will still be standing by the end of Avengers: Endgame? We’ll find out when April 26th finally arrives.
