During Avengers: Endgame‘s theatrical release, diehard fans pored over every inch of the movie across multiple screenings, taking in everything they could. Now, it’s hit home video, meaning that obsessives can go frame-by-frame through the busier sequences to pick out details that were on screen too briefly to focus on. After all this, you’d think Avengers: Endgame couldn’t hide any further secrets, yet directors Anthony and Joe Russo have just revealed a huge Easter egg that no one noticed: the debut of Nova.
The revelation came during a recent video they did in which the pair took questions from Twitter. The final one asked:
“How do you guys not have any Nova Corp member in a fight against Thanos? Love the movie but just boggles my mind. Didn’t even have to be Richard Rider.”
It’s a fair enough inquiry, and ordinarily, I’d presume the answer was just that the final battle was already gargantuan without more participants. But, shockingly, that wasn’t the case, as Joe Russo revealed the following:
“Look closely at that scene again and you will see. You will see Richard Rider in the background of the shot. Easter egg.”
In the wake of this, I’m sure that there are a million people now examining the battle in microscopic detail as they try to find Nova. I just hope this isn’t a sadistic joke on the part of the directors, teasing this in the full knowledge that fans will pull their hair out in frustration trying to spot him. But, I’ve gotta say, Joe Russo sounds fairly sincere to me here.
If Nova is in the film, I have no doubt that we’ll get the shots of him posted online soon enough. And, if this turns out to be real, it’s seriously impressive that Avengers: Endgame managed to conceal one of the most-requested heroes to appear in the MCU for so long.
If you’re one of those now searching, happy hunting!
