Avengers: Endgame Writers Won’t Confirm Whether Thor’s Now A Guardian

Avengers: Endgame left us with a lot of question marks flying around our heads, many of which were to do with where or when we might next see the original Avengers. Iron Man and Captain America's stories might have been wrapped up but the movie left Thor in an interesting place, as he abandoned his role as King of (New) Asgard and left Earth onboard the Benatar with the Guardians of the Galaxy. Oh, sorry, the "Asgardians" of the Galaxy.

So, does this mean that the God of Thunder is going to continue to step on Star-Lord’s shoes and join the team for real in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3? That question was put to Endgame‘s writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely in an in-depth interview with Fandango, but we still don’t know the answer, as they decided to leave it up to Guardians director James Gunn to say more.

“Ask Peter Quill,” Markus replied, before McFeely echoed his comments: “Yeah, you might have to ask James [Gunn] or Quill.”

This passing of the buck might disappoint fans who want a definite answer to whether we’ll see Thor in GotG Vol. 3 but, if you think about it, this deflection might speak louder than words. Markus and McFeely are clearly trying not to spoil Gunn’s threequel, which must mean that there’s something to spoil in terms of Thor’s involvement.

In any case, as much as he might get on Quill’s nerves, the God of Thunder should be a useful ally to have around in locating the 2014 version of Gamora, who’s out there somewhere in this universe following the big battle with Thanos’ forces. With his Gamora definitely dead, we can expect Peter’s attempts to find alt-Gamora, and then probably woo her with his “pelvic sorcery” again, to be the backbone of Vol. 3.

Speaking of which, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is reportedly filming next year, so it shouldn’t be too long before we find out whether Chris Hemsworth is going to return so soon after Avengers: Endgame.
