5) No Strings On Me
The success of Loki in phase one of Marvel’s cinematic universe was hard to top, and subsequent villains have either underwhelmed or just been plain boring… oh hey Malekith! Didn’t see you there! However, once fans caught wind that James Spader had been cast to voice the psychotic robot Ultron, expectations rose exponentially.
Fortunately, Spader’s trademark wit and unnerving screen presence is captured from the very first moment Ultron arrives, crashing the Avengers’ victory party with Tony Stark’s own technology. Ultron’s first body is made from discarded Iron Man parts and his twisted appearance serves as a dark reflection of the good work that the Avengers aim to accomplish.
The most powerful moment in this scene comes when Ultron creepily sings words from the Disney song “I’ve Got No Strings” as he staggers zombie-like towards the Avengers, subverting an innocent children’s melody into something far more disturbing.
I don’t know about you, but I, for one, can’t wait to hear Thanos singing Ariel’s “Part of Your World” as he sits forlornly on his throne, watching the puny earthlings scurrying around below.
