Marvel’s casting process continues to intrigue and delight with each passing minute – just look at the ensemble cast that’s been brought together for both Infinity War and Avengers 4.
Of course, there are a number of key actors who will likely skip Infinity War for its untitled sequel (and vice versa!), such as Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel and the titular duo of Ant-Man and the Wasp – providing Scott Lang isn’t stowed away in the official IMAX poster for Infinity War.
But there’s another Ant-Man star who’s been tipped for a sizeable role in Avengers 4 – and no, sadly it’s not Michael Peña’s Luis. Instead, we’re learning that Janet Van Dyne, the original Wasp, is set to reappear in 2019, where her emotional scene will seemingly reduce any Marvel fan into a blubbering wreck.
That’s according to Marvel Studios executive Victoria Alonso, who admitted to The Hollywood Reporter that she shed a tear or two upon laying eyes on Michelle Pfieffer and her own “little Hollywood moment.”
THR: Marvel’s next film is Avengers: Infinity War. With a budget upwards of $300 million, is it the biggest movie you’ve worked on?
VA: Infinity War is a dream come true. Everybody has had other journeys, but this is sort of the moment in time where their journeys collide. We didn’t have everyone there all the time. That only happened for two or three days.
THR: Were you there when everybody was there?
VA: Yes. I’m not going to lie to you, I cried. You say to yourself, ‘Huh?’ You have big stars talking about other big stars as in, ‘Gasp, is that Michelle Pfeiffer? It is! Oh, was that so-and-so?’ It’s like their little Hollywood moment, which I found lovely and endearing.
This potential scrap of intel infers that Janet Van Dyne has a role to play in either of the two upcoming Avengers movies – presumably the latter, given it’s also set to welcome Ant-Man and the Wasp into its midst in 2019. Closer to home, Infinity War is on the verge of making history, and it’ll look to upend the MCU from April 27th.
