Perhaps more so than any other character on the Marvel roster, Steve Rogers is poised for a huge, potentially Earth-shaking arc across both Infinity War and Avengers 4.
Better known to you, I and the US of A as Captain America, Rogers has already been tipped for a big character transformation (Nomad, perhaps?), while another spat with Iron Man is seemingly on the cards. That story clue was initially weaned from a batch of set photos captured in Atlanta (see here), spawning all sorts of fan theories ranging from alternate timelines to full-blown time travel.
It’s by no means official, of course, as there’s only so much info one can glean from pre-CG images lifted from a set. Besides, Avengers 4 has now wrapped production (check out the Thanos-themed cake!), so unless the Russo Brothers order up a round of reshoots, this is really the last time we’ll see Avengers 4 occupy the streets of Atlanta.
Thankfully, UK tabloid the Daily Express has delivered three final pictures to keep us ticking over, and they once again feature Steve Rogers (Chris Evans), Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) and Scott Lang (Paul Rudd).
It’s more of the same, really, as we see the old-school Captain America standing next to a blonde Iron Man. Chances are this has something to do with the latter’s Binarily Augmented Retro-Framing (B.A.R.F.), a piece of far-future tech capable of rendering old memories anew in the name of therapeutic healing.
Hailed as something of a finale for the current MCU, Avengers 4 has been penciled in for May 3rd, 2019, by which point comic book fans will have already clocked eyes on Black Panther, Infinity War and Ant-Man and the Wasp, not to mention the long-in-development Captain Marvel movie.
It’s a superhero slate big enough to strike envy in any studio executive, and after 10 years of continuous success, Marvel Studios is almost too big to fail – or so says Chris Evans.
