“There will be two distinct periods. Everything before Avengers 4 and everything after.”
That’s Kevin Feige there, teasing the profound sea change that will occur within the MCU come 2019. Because after Infinity War, Ant-Man and the Wasp and the long-awaited Captain Marvel movie, Marvel’s lucrative franchise will seemingly be flipped upside-down by the release of Avengers 4.
Story details are still being kept under lock and key, of course, but with rumors of time travel already doing the rounds – Thanos will be in possession of a full-fledged Infinity Gauntlet, after all – it’s abundantly clear that the MCU will never be the same once the Russo Brothers deliver their second and final Avengers sequel. After all, the pic is set to be even bigger than Infinity War. Or at least, that’s according to Elizabeth Olsen.
Speaking to The Toronto Sun, along with Karen Gillan, the two actresses teased what’s in store for us, saying:
“It’s all leading up to that fourth one,” Gillan promised. “That’s the big finale, so I think of [these] as a cinematic event rather than a movie.”
“The fourth movie will be the biggest thing ever,” Olsen added. “It’s pretty big.”
To be honest, it’s pretty hard to imagine Avengers 4 being bigger than its predecessor, as everything we know so far about Infinity War points to it being the biggest blockbuster, ever. But if there’s any film that can top it, it’s its sequel. Not only that, but the pic will probably hold more significance in the MCU, too, as it’ll signal the beginning of the end of this current era.
That’s right, ladies and gentlemen, Avengers 4 is expected to kill off a number of big-name characters come 2019. Drax the Destroyer has already been linked with an early exit, while there are also expiring contracts to take into consideration.
Those stars seemingly approaching the end of their tether include Robert Downey Jr., Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth, though the latter has since expressed an interest in hanging around the MCU long after Avengers 4. Perhaps that’ll pave the way for a fourth Thor movie? Taika Waititi certainly has a few ideas kicking around.
Either way, in the space of roughly 12 short months, Marvel will deliver a one-two punch of epic proportions, as Infinity War is all set to bring the hype on April 27th, before its sequel – a sequel known only as Avengers 4…for now – tends to unfinished business on May 3rd of 2019. And after that? Well, let’s just say the MCU will never be the same again.
