Avatar 2 Will Arrive In 2015, Avatar 4 Still Possible

The New York Times is reporting that the wait for Avatar 2 just got a bit longer. First announced back in the Fall of 2010, the film originally held a December 2014 release date. Now, after hearing that the film was taking longer to get made than director James Cameron had hoped, we hear firsthand from the man himself that it will indeed be delayed and probably won't reach theatres until 2015 or later.

The New York Times is reporting that the wait for Avatar 2 just got a bit longer. First announced back in the Fall of 2010, the film originally held a December 2014 release date. Now, after hearing that the film was taking longer to get made than director James Cameron had hoped, we hear firsthand from the man himself that it will indeed be delayed and probably won’t reach theatres until 2015 or later.

If you read the entire article, you’ll get the feeling that even 2015 may be a stretch. To be perfectly honest, 2016 or even 2017 are looking like the most realistic release dates for the film. Then again, this is perfectly understandable given the massive scale and scope of the project. For the sequel to his record breaking film, Cameron plans to go under water and explore the oceans of Pandora.

If you thought the visuals showcased in the original Avatar were impressive, just wait till you see what Cameron has done with Avatar 2, it’s going to be absolutely astonishing, I have no doubt about that.

In other Avatar news, though originally announced as a trilogy, Cameron isn’t ruling out a fourth film just yet. Then again, by the time we get to Avatar 4, I’m not even sure if Cameron will still be alive (the director is already nearing 60 years old).

So, sit tight folks, it’s going to be a long, long time before we’re able to return to the world on Pandora again.
