Almost eight and a half years after first entering active development, the first full-length trailer for The Flash is nearly upon us, so it’s only natural that a hardy band of defenders will be trying their best to focus the attention on the SnyderVerse.

Even though James Gunn couldn’t make it any clearer that Zack Snyder’s mythology is well and truly dead, buried, and comfortably sitting six feet under the Warner Bros. lot, there’s still a sweeping state of denial holding many of the most vociferous supporters in its clutches.

Ironically, prior to the latest studio overhaul that saw the Guardians of the Galaxy director and Peter Safran named as co-CEOs, Ezra Miller’s long-gestating solo debut was pretty much a fully-fledged SnyderVerse blockbuster, with a tweet from reporter Scott Menzel leading to an outpouring of grief for the one that got away.

Eagle-eyed fans are confident that Gal Gadot will remain part of the story, but Henry Cavill is virtually destined to have been removed after he was exiled as Superman for a second time, and there’s no word on whether or not Jason Momoa’s Aquaman has survived the last round of edits.

That means at one stage Justice League‘s entire SnyderVerse lineup – with the sole exception of Ray Fisher’s Cyborg – were all lined up for The Flash, but hopefully the fact it’s already quietly being touted as one of the greatest superhero movies of all-time will make up for the crushing disappointment plenty of folks will be feeling.
