He might have conquered the action genre several times over, but Arnold Schwarzenegger and superheroes definitely don’t mix, even if Batman & Robin is pretty much all we’ve got to go on.
Of course, that’s more than enough when Joel Schumacher’s infamous nipple-heavy comic book caper still ranks as one of the medium’s worst-ever efforts more than a quarter of a century on from its release, with the Austrian Oak’s quip-happy turn as Mr. Freeze dropping so many one-liners and terrible puns it’s enough to make your head spin.
With Netflix series FUBAR debuting today and delivering fan service on an episodic scale, the chances are high that the former governor of California could be recruited for even more high-profile projects, and they don’t come much bigger than the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Rumors have been running rampant for years that he was in the running for any number of roles, but would he actually sign on the dotted line if Kevin Feige came calling?
Well, Schwarzenegger was asked that very question in an interview with Men’s Health, and he responded with a semi-enthusiastic “If the role is right!” Not that he needs to make any behind the scenes moves to get an audience with the biggest game in town, but being Chris Pratt’s father-in-law does give him a direct line to Marvel HQ if need be, although the fact he’s one of the most iconic stars of the modern era does admittedly speak for itself.
Fans would love to see it, and the possibilities are endless when it comes to the legendary ass-kicker dipping his toes back into superpowered waters, but it’s something a lot of people would love to see happen.
