In the final bit of Troma news, it looks like The Toxic Avenger isn’t the only property being eyed for a remake:
Lloyd Kaufman: Well, there’s lots of remakes these days as I’m sure you know. The Toxic Avenger is being remade by Akiva Goldsman, this Oscar winning writer, and Brett Ratner’s company remade Mother’s Day, and somebody wants to remake Poultrygeist: Night Of The Chicken Dead.
Alright, we knew the Goldsman was producing a Toxie remake, and I actually dug the Mother’s Day remake, but Poultrygeist: Night Of The Chicken Dead?! Can’t explain why, but this fried-chicken zombie flick is my favorite Troma film to date, and it was only created in 2006. It’s not outdated, already has a big-budget feel, and is some of Troma’s best song-and-dance slaughtering. I’m a little protective of this title, so whoever is eyeing this remake better have a good clucking reason.
While this is all pretty big news to hardcore Troma fans, the biggest surprise here is no doubt Arnold Schwarzenegger’s exit from The Toxic Avenger. Honestly, it doesn’t make or break the film at all for me, and I’ll still be looking forward to Steve Pink’s adaptation, but it would have been awesome to have Arnie landing some Troma-influenced one-liners. Who knows, maybe they’ll still work things out, as we don’t even have a Toxie yet, but only time will tell. Until then, I need my rest so I can stomach some more Tromorganic Tacos and fight those nasty Cretans roaming the halls of Tromaville High.
