The lush world of Atlantis beckons, ladies and gentleman, and this December, James Wan and his team will plunge beneath the waves for a DC movie the likes of which we’ve never seen before.
We are, of course, referring to Aquaman, the newly-appointed cover star of Entertainment Weekly. This issue arrives just in time, too, what with the film’s first trailer expected online any day now – based on the timing of EW’s reveal, the safe bet would be tomorrow, June 15th.
Either way, in the gallery below you’ll find two covers: one dedicated to Jason Momoa’s King of the Seven, and another that places Arthur Curry between the two leading ladies of Atlantis, Mera (Amber Heard) and Queen Atlanna (Nicole Kidman).
And in the eyes of James Wan, Aquaman sets itself apart from its DC peers in that it’s best described as a “sci-fi fantasy film.” Where do we sign up?
The water world my movie takes place in is so separate and so far apart from previous DC movies it’s like I’m making my own sci-fi fantasy film. This is a whole new underwater world nobody has seen before in live action.
Front and center is Game of Thrones alum Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry, and his performance has garnered the highest of praise from Aquaman‘s executive producer, Peter Safran, who believes Momoa’s in the same league as Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man) and Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool) in that he’s perhaps the perfect match for his on-screen character.
Via EW:
Rarely has a superhero character been married to the real-life actor as much as Aquaman and Jason Momoa,” executive producer Peter Safran declares. “He’s authentically from two worlds, he’s this real physical specimen, he’s got this humor which he’s never been allowed to play before — in every regard he is Aquaman.
Aquaman docks in theaters this December, and will likely make a big splash during Warner’s SDCC showcase next month. Stay tuned for more.
