One of Ant-Man‘s biggest surprises (despite it being inevitably spoiled in the TV spots for the movie) was the appearance made by Anthony Mackie’s Falcon and the subsequent battle between the two heroes. Despite the fact that Sam Wilson ended up being somewhat humiliated by Scott Lang, both the closing moments of Ant-Man and the after-credits scene revealed that he was searching for him in order to ask him to join The Avengers in Captain America: Civil War.
When asked in a recent interview where things can possibly go from here for the relationship between Ant-Man and The Falcon, Mackie teased:
“Yeah, our relationship is… yeah [laughs]. It grows in Civil War. But that’s Paul Rudd, man. Paul Rudd and I just make fun of each other all the time, so it just carries over into the movie. So I respect his royals – I’m pulling for his royals – but we just make fun of each other all the time.”
Seeing the dynamic between the two characters following their fight during the events of Ant-Man promises to be a lot of fun, and it sounds like Sam coming out on the losing end of that is going to create some tension between the two.
However, it doesn’t appear as if there’s a huge amount of hard feelings between them, with Captain America: Civil War instead using this as a source of comedy in what looks set to be a very dark and game changing Phase 3 Marvel movie.
Either way, Ant-Man being included in this movie is a huge plus, and will act as a nice way to hopefully set the stage for 2018’s Ant-Man and The Wasp.
