Anthony Mackie says a founding MCU Avenger is still alive, and now fans have even more questions

Way to blow our minds, Mackie.

Anthony Mackie has given Marvel fans a lot to chew over of late. As he’s going around promoting his new Netflix movie We Have a Ghost, the Sam Wilson star has shared a lot of interesting tidbits about Captain America: New World Order along the way. Including, but not limited to, the revelation that he’s yet to see a script for the movie and that he’s going to be cursing like Wesley Snipes as Blade throughout (although he’s probably joking about that one — probably).

What’s more, during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Mackie dropped another bombshell in our laps with his claim that a founding MCU Avenger is actually still alive. Doing his due diligence and trying to get some spoilers out of the franchise veteran, Kimmel quizzed Mackie on if Steve Rogers is alive or dead in current MCU continuity. The actor seemed stunned by the question and answered, “Is he dead? I mean, he ain’t dead!”

“Why are you trying to kill Steve? That’s age discrimination,” he went on to joke. When Kimmel pressed once more on if the OG Cap is OK, Mackie added: “Yeah, I think so. I didn’t see him die, I don’t know. I saw Chris [Evans] two weeks ago and he looked pretty good.”

While you might think the news that Steve is still alive and kicking would fill fans with relief, actually it’s just left them full of questions. Old Man Steve hasn’t been seen since the end of Avengers: Endgame, with The Falcon and the Winter Soldier very heavily suggesting he had passed away in the time since. However, the news that he’s alive must mean that the wild conspiracy theory floated around in that show is true… Is Steve really on the moon?

Maybe he’s chilling with Nick Fury in his Skrull-powered space station?

As one thorough commented pointed out, though, there was nothing in Falcon that categorically stated Captain Rogers was dead, so the canon remains intact.

Others aren’t convinced that what Mackie says is the official Marvel line and may just be his opinion.

As for what Steve could be doing now if he’s still up and about, you know… he’s doing moon stuff.
