Only a few days removed from seeing their latest directorial effort, Avengers: Infinity War, pass $1.9 billion at the global box office, Anthony and Joe Russo, much like a significant chunk of the titular supergroup, have seemingly turned to dust on several social media platforms.
During the evening hours on May 28th, a Reddit user noticed that the joint Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram accounts of the brothers have been, peculiarly enough, wiped clean. Granted, it’s not uncommon for people to cleanse their social media accounts, but for all three to go dark at once is undoubtedly intriguing.
Unfortunately, neither Russo has been reached for comment, but you can see proof of it in the gallery below:
While we wait to learn more about what this mysterious move might mean, the directing duo’s latest outing, Avengers: Infinity War, continues to mow down box office records. Having grossed an unprecedented $250 million-plus stateside opening weekend, and subsequently becoming the fastest film to reach the $1 billion plateau, the third Avengers installment helped Marvel Studios eclipse $3 billion at the worldwide box office in 2018 earlier this month, a personal best.
After being crowned king of the Chinese ticket booth upon opening in the world’s second-biggest market, Infinity War also officially became the highest-grossing Marvel movie ever in the Middle Kingdom. Then, as if that wasn’t impressive enough, it was crowned the third most successful Hollywood import of all time in China, with only Furious 7 and The Fate of the Furious having earned more at the box office.
Avengers: Infinity War appears destined to eclipse the $2 billion mark worldwide at this point, a feat achieved only thrice in cinematic history, thanks to Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($2.068B), Titanic ($2.187B), and Avatar ($2.788B).
Circling back to Anthony and Joe Russo’s disappearance from social media, though, and should we learn anything else about it, we’ll be sure to let you know.
