In what will go down as the first major piece of casting news for the “mind-bending” Marvel sequel, Variety is reporting today that Hannah John-Kamen has landed a mystery role aboard Peyton Reed’s Ant-Man and the Wasp.
No further character details were disclosed at this time – such is the Marvel way when it comes to the MCU – though we understand the Powers That Be have been busy meeting with potential candidates over the past few weeks, before ultimately settling on Hannah John-Kamen for the part. And though she’s still very much considered to be one of Hollywood’s rising stars, chances are you’ve caught a glimpse of John-Kamen on the small screen in recent years, given the British actress has cropped up in Game of Thrones and Charlie Brooker’s prescient anthology series, Black Mirror.
Those performances led to a key role in Hulu drama Killjoys, which was enough to pique the curiosity of one Steven Spielberg. Last summer, the illustrious filmmaker welcomed Hannah John-Kamen on board for Ready Player One, his long-brewing adaptation of Ernie Cline’s eponymous cult classic.
Getting back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, though, Ant-Man and the Wasp is one of three marquee features pegged to arrive in 2018 – the other two being Black Panther and the grandiose Avengers: Infinity War. Reed is back in the director’s chair, working from a script penned by Gabriel Ferrari and Paul Rudd. The latter will don the super-suit once more as Scott Lang, who will be fighting alongside a new ally in the form of Evangeline Lilly’s kick-ass Hope Van Dyne. Having spent much of Peyton Reed’s sleeper hit on the sidelines, the actress will finally get the chance to suit up in time for 2018 and, frankly, it’s about damn time.
Ant-Man and the Wasp scurries into theaters on July 6th, 2018.
