There’s more to Ant-Man and the Wasp than meets the eye.
While Peyton Reed’s miniature sequel was sandwiched between two MCU heavyweights in Captain Marvel and Avengers: Infinity War, it still contributes an awful lot to the wider Marvel franchise – be it introducing Janet Van Dyne or peppering one or two story clues (i.e. time vortexes) that will no doubt come into play once Avengers 4 arrives in 2019.
And now that Ant-Man and the Wasp is inching closer to its home video debut, USA Today has dropped some new intel (and two deleted scenes!) from the MCU sequel revealing that, yes, Michelle Pfeiffer’s wayward hero encountered some form of intelligent life while locked up in the Quantum Realm.
Antagonist Sonny Burch (Walton Goggins) is certainly intrigued by the technology that allows subatomic travel, as Paul Rudd tells USA Today:
There’s always the challenge of, if this is a guy who’s going after tech, in what ways does he learn about this scenario and who these people are and how are we going to motivate him to try and get this stuff?

We know Janet spent close to 30 years trapped in the Quantum Realm, so it shouldn’t be all that surprising that the pint-sized heroine was able to explore Marvel’s netherworld for secrets and otherworldly organisms. The second of today’s deleted scenes basically confirms as much, too, as we see Janet interact with an alien-like creature.
Paul Rudd continued:
If she is alive, what would that place look like and what would have been going on while she was there and not up on terra firma? This idea that there are other things down there that you could interact with is interesting, and God knows there are tardigrades and all kinds of microscopic things. Treating it almost like outer space made sense.
Ant-Man and the Wasp is headed to digital platforms next Tuesday before expanding to Blu-ray and DVD on October 16th.
