Perhaps most exciting of all, the gallery below welcomes two major chess pieces into the spotlight: Jeff Goldblum’s Grandmaster and the God of Mischief himself, Loki (Tom Hiddleston). Much like the Collector before him, Goldblum’s all-powerful sage is considered one of the Elders of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and enjoys nothing more than pitting one hero against another via the Contest of Champions. Loki, meanwhile, is Loki, and it seems Hiddleston’s cunning trickster won’t be too impressed by the arrival of a certain Sorcerer Supreme.

You’ll find those two character profiles, along with a series of new Ragnarok pics, via the gallery below.

As part of EW’s coverage of Thor: Ragnarok, the outlet spoke with Chris Hemsworth about his third solo adventure wielding Mjölnir – not to mention those shimmering blades glimpsed on the magazine’s vivid new cover. In the beginning, it seems Hemsworth’s mighty God of Thunder will be imprisoned on the other side of the universe, and must fight his way through Sakaar on his journey back to Asgard. It’s here, on a far-flung rock that houses weird and wonderful alien creatures, that Thor will go up against Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk, and you’ll even get a BTS peek at Bruce Banner and Thor sharing the screen up above.

Sakaar, meanwhile, is described as a melting pot of diverse alien cultures and powerful gladiators – a place where the first son of Odin doesn’t carry an awful lot of weight, essentially. Here’s what Hemsworth had to share:

“[Sakaar is] basically where every wormhole across the universe dumps out its trash, so you get people from all walks of life with all sorts of incredible abilities and powers. No one cares what prince or king Thor may have been in another world. Also, his strength is pretty easily matched with those he finds himself amongst.”

Marvel will court the God of Thunder out of hiding and onto the silver screen when Thor: Ragnarok slams into theaters on November 3rd.
