Move over, Spider-Man: No Way Home; there’s about to be a new king of nostalgia on the Marvel Cinematic Universe block.
Deadpool 3 already had the legacy Marvel fans sold when it was revealed that Hugh Jackman would be making his grand return as Wolverine, but the film’s cast has since grown to include franchise favorites such as Leslie Uggams’ Blind Al, Karan Soni’s Dopinder, Brianna Hildebrand’s Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Shioli Kutsuna’s Yukio, and Stefan Kapičić’s Colossus. Indeed, the crimson-clad wise-cracker’s third outing could be the meatiest of the MCU’s multiverse shenanigans yet.
Of course, no number of exciting returns is enough to quench the thirst of rumor-happy Marvel fans, and the latest whisper surrounding Deadpool 3 claims that Wolverine will have quite the headache on his hands, and we’re not talking about the Merc with a Mouth himself.
Though the spreader was very careful to point out that their source was unverifiable, a little bird allegedly told them that Liev Schreiber would be donning the Sabretooth mantle once more for Deadpool 3, with the ever-present score to settle with Wolverine no doubt still in tow, if true.
Schreiber portrayed the character in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, which wasn’t exactly well-received by anybody; a pair of solid performances by Jackman and Schreiber ended up being overshadowed by the dreadfully-written Wade Wilson, which Reynolds had the misfortune of bringing to life.
For the sake of Schreiber’s overall Marvel experience, we hope this rumor ends up being true; if Deadpool can save Ryan Reynolds from a lambasted superhero career, then a Deadpool 3 appearance for Schreiber will no doubt make the X-Men Origins taste a little less sour.
Deadpool 3 is due in theaters on Nov. 8, 2024.
