Pitch Perfect fan-favorite Anna Kendrick is in negotiations to headline Disney’s new, as-yet-untitled festive comedy in which she’ll play Santa Claus.
Per Variety, the project is currently brewing under the fetching name of Untitled Disney Female Santa Claus Movie – Nicole is another tentative title – and chronicles the story of Santa’s daughter (Kendrick) who is forced to take control of the family business at the 11th hour. It’s Christmas Eve, and those presents aren’t going to deliver themselves, leaving Nicole with little choice but to take matters into her own hands, check the list twice, and bring the festive spirit to one and all.
Miss Congeniality scribe Marc Lawrence is behind the pitch and may wind up directing should the project coalesce, though no further details were disclosed at the time of writing. Kendrick, who recently starred in DreamWorks’ Trolls movie and Ben Affleck thriller The Accountant, seems like the perfect fit to carry a movie of this ilk. From Pitch Perfect to Into the Woods to Up in the Air, the actress simply oozes charm, and her exuberant, almost infectious energy often elevates mediocre romps with few redeeming qualities – here’s looking at you, Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates.
For Anna Kendrick, Pitch Perfect 3 is the priority at the moment. The cameras are now officially rolling on Trish Sie’s musical sequel, which is poised to stage a reunion for the Barden Bellas in December of 2017. Beyond that, Kendrick also holds a role in the quirky comedy flick Table 19. It’ll open on March 3 in the States.
