One Australian actress who has broken out lately has been the Academy Award nominated Jacki Weaver. Weaver was nominated for her role in last year’s Sundance winning film, Animal Kingdom, and since then has taken advantage of this new found stardom.
Weaver has already picked up two huge films due out in 2012. First is The Five-Year Engagement, which stars Emily Blunt and the second is Chan-wook Park‘s Stoker which stars fellow Aussies Mia Wasikowska and Nicole Kidman.
Now the 54 year old grandmother can add another credit to her resume. Weaver may join David O. Russell’s next film, The Silver Lining Playbook. If she joins, she’ll be playing the part of Bradley Cooper‘s character’s mom.
The plot synopsis for the film is as follows:
“After spending four years in a mental institution, a former teacher, Pat Peoples (Bradley Cooper) moves back in with his mother and tries to reconcile with his ex-wife.”
Having read the book, I believe Weaver would be a fantastic casting choice. This could also be a role that could nab the actress her second Oscar nomination, if the part is written anything like it was in Matthew Quick’s fantastic novel.
The Silving Lining Playbook stars Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence and Robert De Niro, and is eyeing to start filming next month, for a late 2012 release.
