Oh, Wes Anderson, you sly devil. Just when you think that the ensemble cast of Anderson’s newest film The Grand Budapest Hotel cannot get any better, something like this happens. According to Cinema Blend, Angela Lansbury has confirmed her role in the quirky filmmaker’s newest quirk-fest.
The grandest of the grand dames spoke to UK Magazine The Gentlewoman about joining the film, saying:
“I’m playing woman of mystery, it’s minuscule role. I’m on the screen probably for less than 5 minutes.”
Despite an apparently small part, Lansbury joins quite the cast. Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Bill Murray are all confirmed ensemble members, with rumors circulating about Anderson regulars Owen Wilson, Jeff Goldblum, Willem Dafoe, Edward Norton and Adrien Brody. While many of the parts are small roles, perhaps little more than walk-ons, Anderson has assembled quite an array of talent for his latest work.
I always look forward to an Anderson outing and this one is no different. Bringing in new faces as well as old stalwarts is just incredibly exciting. How often will we have the chance to see Angela Lansbury and Johnny Depp share a screen, even for a fleeting moment? I cannot wait to see what this cast delivers.
The Grand Budapest Hotel will begin shooting in Germany, with a slated release of December 26, 2014.
