If you’re a fan of horror flicks, you might want to plan for a trip to the movie theater in a few days’ time. Later this week, Orion Pictures and United Artists Releasing will team up to release Child’s Play, a complete reboot of the 1988 film of the same name. Directed by Lars Klevberg and produced by Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg, this reimagining will not see any involvement from series creator Don Mancini, who instead’s working on the franchise’s new TV show.
In fact, it looks like the creative team isn’t sticking to tradition at all, as the film’s cast is comprised of a handful of new faces. While most moviegoers won’t recognize young Gabriel Bateman (who is taking on the role of Andy Barclay), some will be familiar with Aubrey Plaza (of Parks and Recreation fame), as well as Brian Tyree Henry (Joker, Atlanta). The most famous name attached though won’t be appearing on screen at all.
Instead of bringing back Brad Dourif – who’s played the role of murderous doll Chucky in every installment to date – that job was handed over to Mark Hamill, which many will know for playing Luke Skywalker. While he certainly propelled himself to stardom thanks to his appearance in the Star Wars franchise, Hamill has also seen success as a voice actor, best known for portraying the Joker in a handful of Batman animated cartoons, films, and even a few video games.
While Mark’s talent isn’t showcased in this particular footage – you’ll want to check out the film’s “Peekaboo” clip for that – the brand new video (which we’ve embedded above) shows a conversation between Andy and his mother, who doesn’t believe her son’s claims about his murderous doll. Needless to say, it looks like the proverbial s**t is going to hit the fan, and we can’t wait to see how it all turns out when Child’s Play lands in theaters on June 21st.
