If you were asked to name the best and most brutal action movie to release this year that featured a virtually indestructible hero with an affinity for canine companions, the answer would obviously be Finland’s Sisu.
John Wick: Chapter 4 may have won big with critics and the box office, but it also happens to share a Certified Fresh Rotten Tomatoes score of 94 percent with writer and director Jalmari Helander’s blood-splattered rampage of revenge that unfolds over an economical 91 minutes towards the end of World War II.
The plot is incredibly simple, downright delightful, and must-see viewing for any self-respecting genre junkie; the Nazis are making their way across Lapland, only to get more than they bargained for when they happen across Jorma Tommila’s exiled former commando, who then proceeds to decimate them one-by-one in increasingly spectacular fashion.
Make no mistake about it; Sisu absolutely and totally rules, which might be why it’s instantly become one of the Top 10 most-watched titles for iTunes subscribers in the United States per FlixPatrol, only 24 hours after being made available on digital and on-demand. If the film’s Aatami Korpi ever found himself crossing paths with John Wick, then the only loser would be the planet, because there’s no way anything or anyone would survive such a mouthwatering clash of titans.
It may have flown under the radar during its initial release, but Sisu is guaranteed to become a cult classic in no time at all, and it’s highly recommended that you get in on the ground floor.
