It doesn’t have to be your own personal opinion, but if you were asked which of the Marvel Cinematic Universe‘s 32 feature films to date had been determined by an in-depth study as its most-hated, then it would be safe to say there would likely be just one title on your lips.
Sure enough, data collated by ProjectorScreen (via MovieWeb) has named Captain Marvel as the landslide winner, a cruelly fitting status for the film that’s far and away the franchise’s least popular among certain corners of the internet – and Rotten Tomatoes users, if you ignore the review-bombing campaign.
The statistics are broken down by state, and then combed through to discover which MCU blockbuster has accrued the most negative geo-tagged Twitter posts, hashtags, and phrases from a sample of over 120,000 tweets. To the shock of nobody, then, Brie Larson’s solo debut was the “victor” by a landslide, after being designated as the number one target for ire in 23 states.
To put that into perspective, Eternals was the runner-up after emerging on top in seven states, with Black Widow just behind on six. We’re not saying that it’s got anything to do with the three of them having women in the top-billed roles, but we’re also saying that if you’ve been on the internet more than once since Captain Marvel was released you can make up your own mind on that one.
Come rain or shine, the Brie Larson hate train must keep on rolling in perpetuity, and there are still four months to go until The Marvels comes to theaters. The joys…
