Fox has secured Trainwreck star Amy Schumer and Warm Bodies director Jonathan Levine for a new untitled mother-daughter comedy, Deadline has learned.

Toplining the feature as the daughter, it’s understood the studio is now in search of an actress to star opposite Schumer, who can next be seen – or rather heard – in the next series of Netflix’s irreverent comedy, BoJack Horseman. In terms of Fox’s project, though, Katie Dippold penned the script for this one, channeling her own mother-daughter relationship as inspiration, and it’s understood that the scribe is also attached to executive producer.

If you recognize Dippold’s name, you probably should. Not only has the writer provided the screenplay for The Heat, but she also worked in tandem with Paul Feig on the script for the upcoming Ghostbusters reboot. Beyond that, Peter Chernin and Jenno Topping are also producing the yet-to-be-titled romp under Chernin Entertainment, while Feigco Entertainment are also involved via Jessie Henderson and Paul Feig – marking a small reunion between the comedy director and Dippold.

News of Schumer toplining a feature of her own should come as no surprise. Off the back of Trainwreck‘s relative success – $138 million at the time of writing – Fox is right to be confident in her ability to carry a comedy feature. The search is now on for the studio to find and lock down an actress to play the mother, and it surely the dynamic between Schumer and her maternal figure that will underpin Levine’s comedy-drama.

Neither Fox nor Deadline disclosed an official start date for Amy Schumer and Jonathan Levine’s new project, though you can share your early thoughts on the casting down below.
