Monogamy is not realistic. It’s an all-too-pessimistic outlook that has been drilled into Amy Schumer’s leading lady for as long as she can remember, and one that will underpin Judd Apatow’s upcoming rom-com, Trainwreck.
As a career-driven woman living in The Big Apple, Schumer’s Amy remains disinterested – if aloof – to any romantic commitment for fear it would tie her down and ruin her happiness. However, after agreeing to spearhead a feature on a delightfully charming sports doctor (Bill Hader), our protagonist soon finds that her once-ironclad perspective isn’t all it’s cracked up to be, even if she refuses to admit it at first.
[zerg]Though it won’t win any awards for breaking new ground in the genre, the fact that Apatow has assembled a stellar cast around the leading pair, including the likes of Brie Larson, John Cena, Tilda Swinton, LeBron James and Vanessa Bayer, gives us faith that Trainwreck won’t fall foul to its downbeat moniker.
Plus, early footage from the rom-com illustrates the chemistry between Hader and his would-be love interest, couple this with the fact that Schumer helped pen the script and you could have one of July’s sleeper hits.
Trainwreck will coast into theaters on July 17.
Since she was a little girl, it’s been drilled into Amy’s (Schumer) head by her rascal of a dad (Colin Quinn) that monogamy isn’t realistic. Now a magazine writer, Amy lives by that credo—enjoying what she feels is an uninhibited life free from stifling, boring romantic commitment—but in actuality, she’s kind of in a rut. When she finds herself starting to fall for the subject of the new article she’s writing, a charming and successful sports doctor named Aaron Conners (Bill Hader), Amy starts to wonder if other grown-ups, including this guy who really seems to like her, might be on to something.
