James Gunn‘s initial promise that The Flash was going to be something really special were only met with scorn, in the wake of its many high-profile delays and Ezra Miller’s personal and legal troubles, but the new trailer for this summer’s big DC blockbuster may have successfully turned the film’s reputation around. What with the return of both Michael Keaton AND Ben Affleck’s Batmen, folks are starting to buy into the hype and are wondering if this really could be a barnstorming end to the OG DCEU.
Unfortunately, one aspect of The Flash that’s still got a cloud hanging over it is the role of Sasha Calle’s Supergirl. Her grand DC debut could be more of a one-off wonder, given that Gunn recently announced a Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow flick as part of his rebooted DCU slate. Nevertheless, Calle seems to be channeling the Girl of Steel herself in keeping her spirits up that her superhero career might be far from over.
The actress is understandably over the moon following the trailer’s release, gushing on Twitter that she put her “heart and soul” into portraying the beloved heroine, describing the character as “so special and strong” and praising the experience of playing her as one of her “greatest honors.”
What’s more, in a follow-up tweet, Calle appeared to address the speculation that her role will soon be recast, offering a very optimistic take on the situation that her fictional alter ego Kara Zor-El would be proud of. “If there’s anything Supergirl has taught me, it’s hope,” she wrote. ‘Anything is possible. Do not let anyone tell you otherwise!”
Although The Flash‘s Supergirl isn’t exactly the mainstream take on the character, fans appear to have immediately embraced her, so many share Sasha Calle’s hope that she won’t just be another casualty of Gunn sweeping the board (almost) clean for his upcoming projects. For now, all we can do is remain excited for her arrival on the scene come The Flash, premiering June 16.
