Director James Bobin may have already teed up plans for his next creative venture – at the helm of Sony’s Jump Street/Men in Black crossover bonanza, no less – but before delving into a shared world of secret agents and undercover cops, a trip to Underland is in the cards.
That’s right, Alice Through the Looking Glass is now mere weeks away, and to drum up excitement, Disney has premiered two new clips for the fantasy offshoot that welcome the return of Mia Wasikowska in the role of Alice.
Featuring characters from Lewis Carroll’s indelible novels, James Bobin’s prequel/sequel whisks our heroine back in time, where she must save a young Mad Hatter. See Johnny Depp in action as the eccentric hatter, below.
Also on board for the time-bending escapade are Helena Bonhan Carter and Anne Hathaway as the Red Queen and White Queen, respectively, while Alice Through the Looking Glass will also feature Stephen Fry as the Cheshire Cat, Michael Sheen’s White Rabbit, and the late, great Alan Rickman as Absolem.
May 27 will set the stage for a cinematic standoff between Bryan Singer’s band of mutants in X-Men: Apocalypse and Alice Through the Looking Glass. Apocalypse may be the shoo-in for box office glory, but don’t discount Alice‘s chances of casting a spell over moviegoers in a few weeks time; after all, Tim Burton’s original flick broke past one billion dollars six years ago.
Director James Bobin brings his own unique vision to the spectacular world Tim Burton created on screen in 2010 with “Alice in Wonderland,” in which Alice (Wasikowska) returns to the whimsical world of Underland and travels back in time to save the Mad Hatter. The film, which once again features Johnny Depp, Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter and the voices of Alan Rickman, Stephen Fry, Michael Sheen and Timothy Spall, introduces several new characters as well: Zanik Hightopp (Rhys Ifans), the Mad Hatter’s father, and Time.
