Lionsgate might be missing the guaranteed teen-bait tribulations of The Twilight Saga, but they’re still on track to make millions of young girls uncontrollably weep with their adaptation of Nicholas Sparks’ The Choice. As is often the case with the author’s tearjerking tales of woe, the cast are all devastatingly attractive. This week alone we’ve heard news that Benjamin Walker (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter) was attached, and this morning Smallville‘s Tom Welling signed on. In a matter of hours we’ve now learned from The Wrap that True Detective‘s Alexandra Daddario will be joining the movie as well.
Not wanting to stray from tradition, the story revolves around a couple – Gabby Holland (Warm Bodies‘ Teresa Palmer) and Travis Parker (Walker) who meet as neighbours. Their attraction to one another leads the pair into a ten-year long relationship, which the film will follow. As is the case with true love, it never goes quite as smoothly as one hopes. You can expect a love triangle courtesy of Welling’s character, Dr. Kevin McCarthy.
There’s no word on who Daddario will play, or how she’ll be involved in the perils of romance. After all, it’s anybody’s guess with a Sparks adaptation. Personally, I’m not the hugest fan of his works, but hopefully this will continue Daddario’s sterling work as previously witnessed in the first season of True Detective.
The Choice begins shooting this month. Check out the plot summary below for more information.
Travis Parker has everything a man could want: a good job; loyal friends; his dream home in small-town North Carolina. In full pursuit of the good life, he believes that a serious relationship with a woman would only cramp his style. That is until Gabby Holland moves in next door. Despite Travis’s attempts to be friendly, she seems to have a chip on her shoulder about him. But something compels Travis to get to know his new neighbor. His persistent efforts lead them both to make tough decisions, the consequences of which neither could have foreseen. The Choice confronts us with that most heart-wrenching question of all: how far would you go to keep the hope of love alive?
