Hawkman is coming to the DCEU. Though not officially confirmed, numerous sources and reports have pointed to it happening of late and the widely-believed idea is that the immortal hero will make his debut in Black Adam, opposite Dwayne Johnson’s antihero. In fact, We Got This Covered revealed back in March that this is expected to set-up a solo film for Carter Hall.
In the same report, we shared that DC was looking for a Muslim actor for the part and now, we have one name that the studio’s said to be considering. According to our sources – the same ones who told us Black Mask will be gay in Birds of Prey, which has since been confirmed – Aladdin star Mena Massoud is being eyed to play the DCEU’s Hawkman. The Egyptian-Canadian actor recently got his big break as the lead of Disney’s mega-successful live-action remake, so you can bet this will lead to other major franchise roles. Though he might have to squeeze them in around further Aladdin movies.
Not that Massoud’s guaranteed the part, mind you. Far from it, in fact, as we’ve heard there are several other names on DC’s radar. Massoud may not even have been approached at this point and as such, might not be aware that he’s on the wishlist. Now that Dwayne Johnson’s finally got a gap in his schedule though, production is finally due to begin on Black Adam in early-to-mid 2020, so we’ll likely hear some concrete casting news for Hawkman later this year or in early 2020.
The Rock is reuniting with Jungle Cruise director Jaume Collet-Serra for the aforementioned project and is also set to produce it. That’s all we know for sure right now, but the Golden Age characters linked to it, like Hawkman, Stargirl and Atom Smasher, suggest it could take place in the past. It’s possible that it could lead into a Justice Society spinoff movie as well somewhere down the line.
Tell us, though, do you think Mena Massoud would be a good fit for Hawkman in the DCEU? Swoop over to the comments section and share your thoughts.
