With Lucasfilm keeping mum on the details of the upcoming Star Wars: Episode IX, the internet is pretty much at liberty to share whatever rumors and predictions they like on next year’s release, and the future of Kylo Ren seems especially hard to get a read on.
Nonetheless, actor Adam Driver, doesn’t seem too keen to help fans out with their speculation, offering only the vaguest answer to Vulture when asked what he found interesting about his character:
“That’s hard to say because we’re working toward something in particular with that character. I don’t want to give anything away.”
This tight-lipped response seems to reflect the approach that most of the cast is currently taking to Star Wars queries, with Mark Hamill recently hopping on Twitter with the messages that he refuses to answer any Episode IX questions.
That being said, a few actors have let slip the odd detail in interviews. Oscar Isaac, for instance, painted a picture of Guerrilla warfare against the First Order when he spoke to USA Today earlier this year. Richard E. Grant, meanwhile, added fuel to the theories that he’d be playing a villain when he mentioned a few days ago that his audition script was an interrogation scene.
Nonetheless, we’ve mostly been relying on leaked set pics and hearsay for info on the sequel, and our notions of what’s to come are still pretty vague. After Kylo’s rise to power in The Last Jedi, for instance, it’s hard to say how this unstable and erratic leader intends to govern The First Order, and whether a redemption could still be possible for this frequently indecisive villain. In any case, all will be revealed when Star Wars: Episode IX hits theaters on December 20th, 2019.
