Now that Paramount has earmarked A Quiet Place 2 for release on May 15th, 2020, the John Krasinski-penned horror sequel is officially teetering on the verge of development. There’s just one problem: Krasinski isn’t a shoo-in for the director’s chair this time around, and may well pass on the torch to another filmmaker when all is said and done.
He’s still writing the Paramount sequel, of course, and John Krasinski confirmed as much while promoting his title role in Amazon’s acclaimed Jack Ryan series. Per Entertainment Tonight, the actor-writer-director announced that he’s currently “tinkering” with the screenplay to A Quiet Place 2, though he’s currently in no position to share any concrete details – lest he run the risk of spoilers for a movie that’s still more than two years out.
Via ET:
I’ve been tinkering with an idea for a few months and it just started to percolate and we’re all really happy about it.
Short and sweet, then. To his credit, John Krasinski clearly has no intention of revealing anything about A Quiet Place 2 at such an early stage in its development, but the fact that he’s “really happy” about the current draft is exciting in and of itself.
Let’s not forget that A Quiet Place turned a $17 million production budget into a worldwide gross of $332 million, so we imagine Krasinski and Paramount will want to strike while the iron is still piping hot. But at this very moment, the Jack Ryan star is still reveling in the success of his humble passion project.
We premiered down at SXSW and my wife said ‘What is one thing you want to focus on in this experience?’ I said, ‘Sometimes people clap at the end of movies at a film festival, that would be cool.’ And when the movie ended everyone jumped out of their seats so much so I could see my wife yelling ‘Oh my god,’ but I couldn’t hear her. I think that would be one of the best moments I have of this movie.
A Quiet Place 2 is booked in for May 15th, 2020, and currently shares its release slate with the long-in-development sequel, Top Gun: Maverick.
